This week we pulled off a modern, fun, and super cute kids party in a “PANDAmonium” theme! This party was going to be at a beautiful local park, but we still wanted to create a cohesive set-up and stylish little “nook” to show off the party theme. What to do when you are having an event in an open space and don’t have a wall to hang your party banner?! Build your own! We used up a few of our extra pallets to close-off our party table a little bit, add some privacy, and also give us more space to decorate and hang cute festive bunting and bamboo garlands.
The color scheme was going to be black and white (duh!), but we really wanted a pop of bright green–to represent bamboo and also to play off of the pretty lush green park where the party was held. We used alternating patterns of black (our favorite party table runners, here) and white polka dots and stripes to give a modern look and to avoid that overly “cutesy/character” vibe that we try to avoid. Tip: if you are trying to give your child a specific character or animal themed party but don’t want to splash a lot of licensed character faces or cartoon faces, just pick the colors that go along with the personality or style of the character (i.e black, white, red, yellow for Mickey Mouse) and then mix in those colors with a classic polka dot or stripe and then subtle images of the character.
For the rest of the decor, we didn’t want to overload the black and white, so we added some natural wood elements with the pallet backdrop and some crates. To balance out the modern vibe, we added some sweet panda stuffed animals, panda graphics on our birthday banner, and some adorable faux grass patches (which are actually so versatile and work with a lot of party themes. The one we have linked above come with little pink flowers, which you can easily remove if you want.)
Instead of treat bags, the kiddos each got to “Adopt a Panda” stuffed animal, which they loved! We added a panda cake for the birthday boy with a simple fondant panda face on top, and adorned vanilla cupcakes with panda cupcake toppers on our favorite cupcake tray (used over and over–a MUST for the party planner type) from Sprinkles Cupcakes.
To make this party extra sweet, we hired Natalie from The Sweet Bee, who operates THE cutest dessert pop-up stand out of her custom “canned ham” trailer. If you live in San Diego, you simply must look into using her. She makes everything herself via her love and passion for baking. We told her the flavor profiles that the birthday boy likes the most, and she made individual one-or-two-bite mini treats for him and all the party guests! The strawberry-shortcake-in-a-jar, and the cookie dough truffles with cashew butter were AMAZING, not to mention chocolate chip cookies, chocolate-mint-cake-in-a-jar, and of course brownies!! Plus, it makes for such a fun photo opp because it’s cuter-than-a-button with it’s own props and mini bench, and guests/hosts can walk inside to play server and dish up loads of sweet treats to their friends. What could be better?!
LET’S MAKE PANDAMONIUM!
